We are happy to launch the fifth version of our course «Fundamentals of Child and Adolescent Protection: Children's Rights in Theory and Practice», which we will teach between December 2022 and January 2023, in a virtual modality, with synchronous classes.
This program, organized by our Center for Studies on Justice and Society (CJS) of the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile, aims to provide professionals from the public, private, and civil society sectors with knowledge and analytical skills in some of the main fields of current concern regarding childhood and adolescence. The course features an interdisciplinary focus, based on the Convention on the Rights of the Child, where professionals are sought to access high-level information and practices based on developments observed in the field of theory and practice within child and adolescent protection systems.
The course consists of 21 instructional hours, which are equivalent to 32 chronological hours of classes, to be held on Fridays and Saturdays in December and January between 15:00 and 18:00 and 9:30 to 12:30 respectively.. Each class will feature mandatory and supplementary reading material to delve deeper into the seminar topics.
It is structured around four modules:
• Fundamentals of protection systems; United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, fundamentals of psychosocial development in childhood and adolescence, and comprehensive child protection systems.
• Specialized protection systems and challenges in Chile: Debates, models and perspectives of intervention and childhood with specific protection needs.
• Children in conflict with the law: Advances in the sociology of juvenile delinquency, Latin American juvenile delinquency policy, International intervention perspectives.
• Challenges in implementing child protection in Chile: Administrative protection systems and decentralization, Evaluation and monitoring of children's policies, Parenting and cultural relevance in child interventions, LGTBI+ children and adolescents in protection systems, Progressive autonomy and implications for protection systems.
The faculty roster for this fifth edition includes a roster of Chilean and foreign lawyers, sociologists, anthropologists, doctors, social workers, psychologists, and public policy experts with extensive knowledge in children's and adolescents' issues.
